GRC Wireless has developed a unique hybrid approach to data security & erasure, based on the specific needs of our diverse participants. We offer a Standard Data Erasure option and a Certified Data Erasure option, which are explained as follows:
Standard Data Erasure
We data erase MOST resaleable devices at the GRC Wireless facility using specialized software or factory reset protocols.
- Outdated devices are physically destroyed through a certified shredding protocol.
- Selected older, damaged and ‘no power’ devices may be sold to select refurbishment companies, who repair or demanufacture the devices and erase the data when applicable.*

Certified Data Erasure
We data erase ALL resaleable devices at the GRC Wireless facility using specialized software or factory reset protocols.
- Outdated devices are physically destroyed through a certified shredding protocol.
- All ‘no power’ devices and data-containing components are processed through a certified shredding protocol.*
- You will receive a Certificate of Data Erasure certifying your devices and/or components were data erased or physically destroyed through a shredding process.

*Under our Standard Data Erasure policy, we data erase or physically destroy most devices, but we may sell selected older, damaged, ‘no power’ and locked devices to third party refurbishment companies who specialize in these devices and erase the data when applicable. The resale of these devices allows us to maximize our recycling proceeds, which in turn maximizes the financial payout to our participants. Our Standard Data Erasure process is an integral part of our Incentive Based Recycling system, which holds that the only solution to sustainable, long term device recycling is strong financial incentive to the recycling entity.
Under our Certified Data Erasure service, we data erase all resaleable devices at our recycling facility. All ‘no power’ devices (where erasure is not possible), and data-containing components will be processed through a certified shredding protocol, where the items are shredded. As such, lower resale proceeds are realized from the sales of these devices, which may reduce our payout by up to 20%. The actual payout reduction depends on the condition of the devices.
