Frequently Asked Questions

HOW DOES A OPERATION GRATITUDE EARN MONEY FROM MY SHIPMENT?

Operation Gratitude will receive up to $200 for every donated phone. Operation Gratitude will receive a minimum of $.10 for every donated phone, including damaged and outdated phones.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE 15+ PHONES AND 1-14 PHONES DONATIONS OPTIONS?

When you donate 15+ phones, we pay the shipping costs, and you will automatically receive a shipment receipt for tax purposes. The receipt will detail the quantity and value of the phones processed.

When you donate 1-14 phones, you mail the phones to us. Shipment receipts are available upon request. We do not collect your information, and do not send you back any shipment summary or receipt. We thank you very much for paying the postage for your 1-14 phone shipment. Helping us reduce postage generates more funds for Operation Gratitude.

DO I RECEIVE A RECEIPT FOR TAX PURPOSES OR SHIPMENT ACKNOWLEDGMENT?

When you donate 15+ phones, you will automatically receive a shipment receipt for tax purposes. The receipt will detail the quantity and value of the phones processed.

When you donate 1-14 phones, you must fill out and include the optional “donation receipt” with your shipment. We will mail back the receipt once we receive and authorize your shipment.

DO YOU TAKE OTHER ACCESSORIES (TRANSFORMERS, CHARGING BASES, ETC.)?

We do not accept transformers, charging bases, cigarette plugs, earpieces, or manuals. Our company focus is device and battery recycling. Most county disposal/trash facilities will accept the charger/charger bases that SmartphoneRecycling.com does not take. Check with your local waste management agency regarding what regulations are required in your area.

IS THE PERSONAL DATA ERASED FROM THE PHONES?

For most models, SmartphoneRecycling.com performs the data erasing at the SmartphoneRecycling.com facility by our technical staff. We use factory resets, specialized software, and manufacturer reset codes to erase personal data. For some older models, the data is erased by refurbishment companies (primarily SmartphoneRecycling.com customers).

Items that cannot be powered on or have broken screens are sold for parts to selected refurbishment companies, who remove personal data when applicable. Lastly, items without “re-use” value are shredded during our metals refining process. The personal data is erased through the destruction of the item.

We recommend that anyone with concern about personal data should erase the item’s memory before recycling. For most models, data erasing is a simple process, commonly found in the settings menu. While we have strong internal policies in place to address personal data in items, we will not be responsible for any information left stored in the memories of phones, iPads and iPods. Please contact us at info@SmartphoneRecycling.com if you have any questions about data removal.

SHOULD I DEACTIVATE THE SERVICE ON THE CELL PHONES?
