CAN LOST & FOUNDS USE SmartphoneRecycling.com?
Yes! We provide a valuable and environmentally necessary recycling program for lost & founds across the United States. Thousands of malls, shopping centers, amusement parks, casinos, airports, airlines, rental car agencies, cruise lines, schools, museums, universities, transportation companies, hotels, restaurants, government agencies and municipalities use SmartphoneRecycling.com to responsibly recycle unclaimed smartphones & iPads.
HOW MUCH DOES SmartphoneRecycling.com PAY PER PHONE?
Fully functional smartphones can earn up to $350 per phone. Damaged and locked smartphones earn up to $50 per phone. Older cell phones generally earn between $.10 and $2.00, depending on make and model. Our current pricing is listed here.
DOES SmartphoneRecycling.com PAY FOR ALL ITEMS?
Yes. We pay a minimum of $.10 for all phones, iPads, and iPods, regardless of age or condition.
(Please note: Shipment totals under $10, consisting of all older and outdated cell phones, will not receive payment. These low value shipments fall under our 'free recycling' service.)
WHAT IS THE 'DONATION' OPTION TO SUPPORT OUR TROOPS?
If your organization prefers to donate the proceeds of your phone shipment, we offer a great option that helps support U.S. Troops. When you select the "donate" option, the proceeds of your shipment (up to $200 per phone) benefit our longtime nonprofit partner Operation Gratitude (OperationGratitude.com). Every year, Operation Gratitude volunteers send 250,000+ individually addressed care packages to U.S.Troops deployed overseas, to their children at home, and to First Responders, New Recruits, Veterans, Wounded Heroes and their Care Givers. Each package contains food, hygiene products, entertainment and handmade items, as well as personal letters of support. Your organization will receive a detailed recycling report stating the total amount contributed to Operation Gratitude.
HOW LONG BEFORE WE GET A CHECK?
SmartphoneRecycling.com will mail a check within 2-3 weeks of processing your shipment. You are always welcome to e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org to check the status of your shipment.
IS A RECYCLING REPORT INCLUDED WITH EACH CHECK?
SmartphoneRecycling.com will include a complete and detailed recycling report with your check. The report will include model, quantity, price per phone, and total amount paid.
HOW DOES SmartphoneRecycling.com RECYCLE SMARTPHONES & CELL PHONES?

IS THE PERSONAL DATA ERASED FROM RECYCLED DEVICES?
Our Standard Data Erasure policy is as follows:
- We data erase most devices at the SmartphoneRecycling.com facility. Our technical staff uses factory resets and specialized software to erase personal data.
- For selected older models, the data is erased by selected refurbishment companies (primarily SmartphoneRecycling.com customers).
- Smartphones that cannot be powered on or have broken screens are sold for parts to selected refurbishment companies, who erase personal data when applicable.
- Outdated items without “re-use” value are shredded during our metals refining process, where the personal data is erased through the destruction of the device.
We recommend that anyone with concern about personal data should erase the item’s memory before recycling. For most models, data erasing is a simple process, commonly found in the settings menu. While we have strong internal policies in place to address personal data in items, we will not be responsible for any information left stored in the memories of recycled devices.
Note: We also offer an upgraded Certified Data Erasure policy, as follows:
- All devices are factory reset at the SmartphoneRecycling.com facility.
- Devices that cannot be factory reset (for any reason) will be physically destroyed through a shredding process.
While our Certified Data Erasure policy is an upgraded service, the payout to your organization will be less for damaged smartphones, as they are physically destroyed and not sold for parts. If you are interested in our Certified Data Erasure policy, please Request a Smartphone Recycling Kit at our main page, and specify "Certified Data Erasure" in the comments. You will receive a special Recycling kit with unique FedEx labels.Please do not use our online FedEx labels. If Certified Data Erasure is not specifically requested in the Smartphone Recycling Kit Request, we process all shipments under our reliable, higher payout Standard Data Erasure policy. WHO PAYS FOR THE SHIPPING?
SmartphoneRecycling.com pays for all shipping costs. Our Smartphone Recycling Kits include FedEx PRP Free Shipping labels, or you can print FedEx Free Shipping labels online.
IS THERE A MINIMUM QUANTITY TO SHIP?
We require a minimum of 10 items per box. This is a bulk smartphone recycling program, so the more items you recycle, the more you will earn!
DO YOU PROVIDE “COLLECTION” BOXES?
No. We do not do this for three important reasons:
- COLLECTION BOXES LEAD TO THEFT WHEN ON DISPLAY: Based on our experience and participant feedback, publicly displayed collection boxes lead to lost or stolen items.
- COLLECTION BOXES LEAD TO THEFT DURING SHIPMENT: Based on our experience, decorative boxes that indicate “cell phone collection” will lead to theft during shipment. Why? It is obvious there are items of value inside the box.
- NEW COLLECTION BOXES VIOLATE OUR ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY: Our dedication to the environment extends to all aspects of our business, including the use of collection boxes. With millions of boxes already available for shipping, it would be irresponsible to produce new boxes for this purpose. The “re-use” of boxes is essential to the preservation of our forests.
We suggest that you use any type of sturdy cardboard box for shipping, such as readily available “copy paper” boxes.
DO YOU TAKE THE BATTERIES, CHARGERS AND OTHER ACCESSORIES?
Yes, we recycle batteries as part of our phone recycling. Fortunately, most smartphones have internal batteries already installed. If your phone does not have a battery, we will accept it, but please do your best to attach the corresponding battery. We do not accept additional “loose” batteries.
As a general rule, we do not accept chargers, wires, or manuals. Most county disposal/trash facilities will accept the charger and accessories that SmartphoneRecycling.com does not accept.

SHOULD I DEACTIVATE WIRELESS SERVICE ON MY SMARTPHONES & CELL PHONES?
Yes, be sure to deactivate your wireless service prior to shipping your phones. We will not be responsible for any airtime charges resulting from phones that were not deactivated.
ARE THERE ANY MEMBERSHIPS FEES OR OBLIGATIONS?
No. There are no membership fees, forms, obligations, or time limits. Our program is ongoing, so we encourage you to recycle and earn year-round!
